Break free from procrastination and get your projects done and finished June 03, 2013 |
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear friends, Some weeks ago I looked at my to-do-list: “prepare the next seminar” was the first item on my list. Instead of doing it I answered emails, phoned a friend, meditated, went shopping, drank tea, cleaned my desk and in the evening I realized that I hadn’t done it. ‘I’ll do it tomorrow. Of course I will do it tomorrow!’ I thought to myself. But I didn’t do it the following day, or the day after. At the very last moment I started preparing the seminar and had a very good laugh at myself, because the topic of the seminar was procrastination! Who does not know procrastination? Procrastination keeps us busy without allowing us to do what we really need to do and is a very successful strategy to keep us stuck in a well-known place where nothing moves or changes. But why do people hand over their time to procrastination although we know how much it sabotages our time? Did you know that procrastination is not a form of laziness? Procrastination protects us from criticism, judgment, possible failure, rejection and even from success. Procrastination keeps us safe from our fears. But we all pay a price when we procrastinate: we feel guilty, ashamed and think that something is wrong with us and that we are not able to change our behaviour.
